Clubhouse Remixed
CAN AN APARTMENT COMPLEX’S CLUBHOUSE BE MORE THAN JUST A PLACE FOR STANDARD SOCIAL AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES?
Our client was most interested in how to incorporate biomimicry into the design of the clubhouse from a Social perspective. The site of the apartment complex is surrounded predominantly by businesses with only a handful of amenities in the area. The demographic this complex is being built for is young professionals working in one of the surrounding businesses. Using the lens of biomimicry, a pattern started to emerge of social programmatic elements that used the biomimetic Life’s Principles of Cultivate Cooperative Relationships and Be Locally Attuned and Responsive as the foundation.
An area upstairs became a space for a new daycare to be utilized by the young professional tenants.
It was determined that the leasing agents were now also going to help maintain a community greenhouse.
The building exterior was updated to maximize southern exposure by adding a large amount of glass to optimize plant growth.
Within the fitness facility the typical exercise machines were replaced with ones that were powered by the people using them.
